How We Test and Research
We use the same research process for every guide so readers can see how a recommendation was reached. Unless an article states that we tested a product ourselves, our guides are research-based and we do not claim hands-on testing.
What we look at
- Keys and action. Number of keys, weighted or semi-weighted action, graded hammer action and key surface, as described by the maker and reported by buyers.
- Sound. Piano sampling, polyphony, number of voices and speaker system.
- Features. Headphone outputs, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, recording and learning functions.
- Size and portability. Dimensions, weight and whether it needs a stand or has a furniture-style cabinet.
- Included accessories. Pedal, power supply, stand, bench and music rest.
- Warranty and support. Length of warranty and how the maker handles claims.
- Value. What the product offers for its price tier. We do not show prices because they change often; check Amazon for current details.
Sources
We draw on manufacturer specification sheets and manuals, published reviews, buyer feedback and community discussion. We link to sources where it helps.
Corrections
If you spot an error, tell us and we will review it. Models change often, so we update guides as new models and information appear.
